Not So Trad meet at the Castle every Thursday at 7pm – come join us!
We have one fixed weekly indoor meet for leading, top-roping and bouldering occurring every Thursday night at the Castle Climbing Centre. We also are starting monthly Wednesday evening meets at the Reach in Woolwich and sometimes go to other climbing and bouldering walls around London. Occasionally we have ‘Meet the club’ events too! Watch out for social media posts or simply get in touch for more info regarding these irregular meets.
Thursday nights
Our Thursday night meet is at the Castle Climbing Centre, London N4. We convene from 7pm and aim to start climbing at 7:15.
Meeting point :
- At the seating area on the first floor next to the lead climbing area (Engine House)
Attendance averages 15 people. There is always a point of contact, whose job is to introduce new members, help pair people up to climb, answer questions and generally make sure the evening goes smoothly. After climbing we reconvene at the Brownswood pub over the road, which is a nice pub with good food and a big garden.
You are responsible for your own entrance fee at the Castle. The Castle has kindly provided us with discounted entry for our climbers at the meet. Tell the reception you are climbing with us. They will charge you the concession rate (£11.50 instead of £16.50 for single entry).
Though our members are always ready to share skills and help each other develop as climbers, we are not a teaching club. If you haven’t climbed before, the Castle runs taster and belay training courses – contact them for more info.
You’re welcome to check us out before joining the club. If you’d like to come along, please get in touch through our Contact form. We also ask you to fill out our membership form (Membership) selecting to become a Prospective member while you decide whether to join as a Full member. By giving us basic personal details and emergency contact information you will be covered by BMC liability insurance when climbing with us. You can be a Prospective member for up to 3 months.
Less regular meets
We are also starting monthly meets at The Reach in Woolwich – Wednesday evenings (14 May, 18 June and 23 July…). Check out posts on Instagram for dates and details or send us a note.
Members often meet each other to climb at walls around London informally. We tend to organise the informal climbs with our members’ WhatsApp groups. If you want to check us out and you can’t make an advertised meet, please get in touch. We’ll help you get involved.

Do I have to join Not So Trad straight away?
You’re welcome to come along to indoor meets as a Prospective member while you decide whether to join. Prospective membership can last up to 3 months. Find out more about membership here.
