NOT SO TRAD CLIMBING FAQ LINKS JOIN US

Membership of NOT SO TRAD Southern Gay and Lesbian Climbers costs £15 per annum and runs from 1 November to 31 October, with a reduced rate of £10 for members joining after 31 July of their first year.

Membership includes:

  • The ability to participate in all club activities, indoor meets and trips, and social events.
  • Club membership of the BMC including cheap travel insurance, access to their network of huts across the UK and other BMC services.
  • Access to the YAHOO group and emails, where members communicate about upcoming events and plan activities
  • A monthly newsletter (here's an example) with details of recent and upcoming trips, news from members, photos, chat and safety tips.
  • 10% retail discount in selected outdoor stores in the UK , subject to participating store policy

If you would like to join, and have access to The Castle climbing centre in North London, it is recommended you attend one of our indoor meets.

If you have not climbed before or have limited experience, you will need to attend on one of our quarterly beginners nights, where NOT SO TRAD members allow you an opportunity to try climbing. You will need to be signed in as the responsibility of one of our members, and you will need to hire equipment for use on the night; hire of harness and shoes are available at The Castle.

If you have climbed before, and are competent in belaying and familiar with climbing safety, you may join us on any Monday night at The Castle. You will be able to register, which allows you to climb there unsupervised.

You may also join us at one of our outdoor meets, although experience of outdoor climbing and seconding may be a preferred minimum requirement (except on our beginner trips). You must have your own harness, belay device, shoes and helmet for all outdoor climbing with the group and, if you are leading, your own rack and ropes.

Contact ROSLYN or PHILLIPE for further details about how to meet the group.

NOT SO TRAD are not able to teach you how to climb. The club recognises that, in line with BMC advice, climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept the risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.
